The human brain is a neural network trained on hundreds of millions of years worth of data. When we learn a skill like driving that's just final touches. It's a drop in the ocean compared to what we have innately that was built by evolution since the first neuron appeared. FSD is starting with virtually nothing and aiming for human level driving ability. It's not surprising that it will require billions of miles in order to get there.

Humans are neural networks. How are we able to drive through a challenging edge case that we've never seen before? Are these artificial neural nets capable of doing the same with enough training? We will find out soon enough.

I have seen 2 totals. Was so impressed with the seconds. But the first I was at the wrong age but in retrospect it was awesome. Totally in the middle of a National Wildlife refuge. 😢 second was as a real adult in northern Ga. Awesome so worth it.

I could never abandon having my own car for a robotaxi, I live pretty far out so if I suddenly decide to hail a robotaxi It would be at least 20 min to 50 min for one to show up, granted for 50% of my trips that would be ok. But for the others that is a pain

I would love to participate in Tesla network of robotaxi but have a thousand questions to discuss. How would a robo taxi handle someone choking or getting sick in the car? Someone making a bad mess in the car? What if it was used for a crime? Many parking lots are huge, will the app be able to handle dropping me at the east end of the purple zone in the xyz parking structure on 5th st? Will passengers tip the robo? During peaks how will Tesla decide if corp or private cars get the plumb routes? Ones that stay busiest, fewest pot holes and road risks, best riders that show up, get in, don’t puke or pass out in the car, etc?

125k and interior design like an airplane? Airplanes aren't comfortable. Also surprised they'd show something with holes to the outside and can't get some rubber strips in there. I imagine they are still a far ways off

Hope not Tesla becomes Apple in peoples minds. To me Apple is stagnation, Steve Jobs had to be fired, work outside Apple to see that Linux is superior. Then Apple took him back. So - Tesla is a lot more progressive and with Elon, who is x20 times more brilliant then Jobs. Tesla is in a good place now, and it will be more and better. Just imagine all the stuff needed on Mars. Tesla will do most of it.

Dave Lee and James Douma talk about "perception stack", "planning stack", "guardrails", "heuristics", "highway stack" and then mixed over and over with "end to end approach". Dave and James: this does not make sense: where are the "ends" in the "end to end"? Where are the modules with guardrails and heuristics? When are they activated? It would be wise, first to really extract the software structure (what modules, what stacks, what Neural networks, what call graph) from the Autopilot ECU in the different software versions (V12 and its subversions, V11 and its subversions) and hardware versions (Hw3 with front radar and ultrasonics, Hw3 with ultrasonics, Hw3 without ultrasonics, Hw4, Hw4 with front bumper camera), and then to visualize it, and then to talk about it. Otherwise, there is a lot of speculation about the internal structure, and the talk sounds like pseudo-tech intended to keep investors happy. The talk is still interesting but the amount of speculation is tremendous.

TLDW. But I just drove FSD for the first time and I'm worried. It's not ready at all. I say 5+ years. I actually think the system may be flawed in its design. I don't think the car can see far enough down the road for safety. Can't tell when an off-ramp is backed up, when it's approaching heavy traffic or a right or left turn lane is backed up. Thus trying to avoid the turn lane, but then it's too late to get into the lane and it practically stops on the freeway or street to get into that lane. It also goes too fast on the freeway in situations with tons of traffic. Then again on side streets without one car on the street it was going 15mph down the street. It's so NOT ready. I'm shocked and may sell some stock myself. Elon has promised and promised and missed by year after year and every youtuber doesn't seem to say the obvious. As someone who NEVER drove FSD and doesn't know how it's improved over the long years... it was nerve racking, scary and just dangerous and I had to disengage. But all I hear from RUclipsrs is how improved it is. I'm sorry, that's not relevant. My God all these RUclipsrs keep pumping it up like it's finished and I get my free month FSD test and it's the scariest ride I've had in years!! Elon has delayed this for 5 years and it still need 5 more. When I say flawed, I'm saying that in order for this to work it may have to have more cameras installed or actually Lidar or radar. Because, as I said, I don't think the car can see far enough down the road. But perhaps I'm wrong and it can and just need more data to train. That would be a relief. But if it turns out that FSD needs Lidar? Oh my God! That would be devastating to Musks future, having been so vocal about how Lidar is NOT needed. Yikes I'm worried.

I suspect Tesla will announce that private owners can join the robotaxi fleet. This will drive massive sales for the Model 3 and Model Y, along with FSD. Even once the robotaxi is built, it will still take several months to calibrate FSD for the new car and one to two years to build out the new robotaxi fleet.

As a test investor, I’m a little afraid Elon is going all in on this Robo taxi. (With no “Model 2”). The tech is great, but it has to be better than a human AND approved by regulators and I see that more like five years out; 2030? Also, if one bad accident happens it could shut down the whole robtaxi system instantly by regulators. What do you think?

Regarding robotaxies, until we hit Level 4 or 5 autonomy, just wondering if they could be treated like school busses with traffic having to stop as they are picking up or discharging passengers. Such a model might accelerate their approval for use on city streets, etc.

Sooo, does this new version (12.4) actually learn from the driver? I found the older versions to be too slow and indecisive (other drivers get annoyed). On one occasion it signal a left turn in the wrong left lane then cuts right into the center lane without a signal….almost an accident (would it be Teslas’ fault?). I just need FSD to drive around a dozen routes the way I’d drive them…yes, I’m willing to teach it!

Just heard Chamath Palihapatiya interview the Founder of Groq, Jonathon Ross. He claims their "old school" approach to AI inference processing can break the monopoly held by Nvidia. He claimed that Nvidia has a strangle hold on the supply chain, which makes it impossible for any other alternative to compete with the architecture Nvidia uses. Would love you and James to discuss.
